The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of appeasement politics following the release of a new school calendar for the state. The BJP alleges that the calendar decreases the number of holidays for Hindu festivals while increasing them for Muslim festivals. BJP leader Ashwini Choubey criticized the government for showing an anti-Hindu face and claimed that the decision was driven by vote bank politics. BJP MP Sushil Modi and Minister of Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh also echoed these sentiments, accusing the Nitish Kumar-led government of hurting Hindu sentiments. The Bihar government has not yet responded to these allegations. Reports state that the holiday calendar for 2024 has seen significant changes, with summer vacation days increased from 20 to 30. Meanwhile, holidays for Hindu festivals like Hartalika Teej and Jitiya have been eliminated, while holidays for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha have been extended to three days each. The Bihar education department has stated that the changes aim to meet the required number of teaching days under the Right to Education.
