The Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Bijnor district in India allegedly awarded ‘murga’ punishment, where an individual has to sit in a chicken-like position, to a village’s development officer for irregularities found in development work. The CDO, Purna Bora, reportedly slapped the officer twice after he was unable to follow instructions. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The development officer later filed a complaint against Bora and demanded a case be registered against him. Village panchayat officers have staged a protest against Bora. In his complaint, the development officer stated that Bora inspected Rampur Chata village and found irregularities in the development work, which led to him scolding him publicly and then asking him to become a murga. The officer was unable to hold the position, causing Bora to become furious and slap him twice.
Bora has denied all allegations against him, stating that he only asked the officer to complete development work as per norms. Bijnor DM Umesh Mishra has set up an inquiry into the matter after receiving complaints, and the police are also probing the incident. Sources suggest that the CDO found substandard materials being used in the construction of a road and other projects. The incident has caused discussions online about appropriate professional conduct between superiors and subordinates.
