The Bihar Grand Alliance government has firmly rejected the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) demand for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. The rejection comes after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against Yadav in a land-for-job scam of the railways during his father Lalu Prasad’s tenure as rail minister.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary stated that no one can be considered guilty solely based on the submission of chargesheet by an investigating agency. He emphasized that guilt can only be determined by a competent court after a proper trial. Choudhary also highlighted the alleged misuse of central investigating agencies such as the CBI, Income Tax, and Enforcement Directorate by the BJP-led Centre against its political opponents.
Meanwhile, the BJP members created a ruckus in both houses of the Bihar legislature, demanding Yadav’s resignation. They argued that a charged minister should not be allowed to remain in the assembly. Their protests led to the disruption of proceedings, with the speaker adjourning the house multiple times.
In the midst of the chaos, the Bihar Goods and Service Tax (Amendment) Bill-2023 was tabled and passed by a voice vote.
The ongoing demand for Yadav’s resignation showcases the political tensions between the Grand Alliance government and the BJP in Bihar. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days, as the BJP continues to push for Yadav’s removal while the government insists on preserving the principle of innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
