Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav Granted Permission to Travel Abroad Amid Land-for-Job Scam Case
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has been granted permission to travel abroad despite being an accused in an alleged land-for-job scam in the railways. On Monday, a Delhi court allowed Yadav to travel to Japan from October 24 to November 1. Special Judge Geetanjali Goel directed Yadav to submit his travel itineraries and provide a personal bond of Rs 25 lakh.
Yadav, along with his mother Rabri Devi and RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who are also accused in the case, were exempted from appearing in court on the same day. This decision comes after the judge had granted them bail on October 4, prohibiting them from leaving the country without prior permission from the court.
The case revolves around alleged Group-D appointments made in the railways during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as the railway minister from 2004 to 2009. It is alleged that recruits were given land parcels in return for securing the jobs. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which registered the case on May 18, 2022, filed a charge sheet in July against Lalu Prasad and 15 others, including his wife and two daughters.
This is the second charge sheet in the case, with the first one filed last year relating to appointments made in the Central Zone of the railways. Lalu Prasad is also out on bail in this case as well as other fodder scam cases.
While Yadav has been named as an accused in this charge sheet, it is important to note that the evidence presented in the case is considered prima facie, showing the commission of various offenses, including corruption, criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery.
The permission granted to Tejashwi Yadav to travel abroad has raised questions regarding the ongoing investigation and the seriousness of the allegations against him. Some believe that it sets a precedent that may be viewed as favorable treatment for those in power.
The case has attracted significant media attention due to the involvement of high-profile politicians and allegations of corruption. It remains to be seen how the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings unfold in the coming months.
