Kolkata: Bidhannagar Police To Install 94 CCTV Cameras on VIP Road Stretch Near Airport
Bidhannagar Police in Kolkata will be installing 94 new CCTV cameras on the 1.5 km stretch of VIP Road, starting from today. The installation aims to enhance surveillance on the primary road to the airport, particularly in light of ongoing Metro construction work that has led to the closure of a section of the road.
To facilitate the New Garia-Airport Metro link project, various stretches of VIP Road have been dug up, causing traffic blocks and diversions. In response to this, the police authorities have taken the initiative to strengthen the surveillance system in the area.
The project, implemented by Webel Technology Ltd (WTL), has a budget of Rs 1.7 crores. Among the 94 cameras, 89 will be high-end bullet cameras known for their long-range viewing capabilities. Their overt design serves as an effective deterrent in densely populated areas where people are aware of being recorded.
Additionally, there will be four automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras that can detect, capture, and log vehicle license plates. These ANPR cameras will be installed at Airport Gate no. 1 (two cameras) and Airport Gate no. 3 (two cameras). Furthermore, a pan tilt zoom (PTZ) camera, which can swivel left to right, tilt up and down, and zoom in and out, will be installed at Airport Gate no. 1.
An official stated that the Kaikhali Traffic Guard will be responsible for monitoring the cameras, and the entire project is covered by a three-year warranty. The installation work is anticipated to conclude within two months.
