Biden and Trump Deadlocked in 2024 Race: New Poll Reveals Surprising Results

A recent poll conducted by the New York Times and Siena College has revealed that Joe Biden and Donald Trump are in a dead heat in the race for the White House in 2024. The poll, which marks the first of the 2024 election cycle, shows that both candidates have 43 percent support among registered voters in a head-to-head race.

Interestingly, these results mirror a previous poll conducted in October before the midterm elections, indicating that Trump’s criminal charges have had little impact on the race. Despite his legal troubles, other polls have shown that he remains the overwhelming favorite for the Republican nomination.

The pollsters offered voters a choice between Biden, 80, and Trump, 77, but 14 percent of respondents declined to back either candidate, stating that they would support someone else or abstain from voting. However, if these undecided voters were to vote the same way they did in the 2020 election, Biden would emerge as the winner with a two percentage point lead. It’s worth noting that in 2020, Biden won the popular vote by four points.

The survey also found that Trump continues to have a significant lead among white voters without a college degree. Meanwhile, Biden enjoys a substantial advantage among white voters with a college degree and non-white voters. Trump has made surprising gains among male voters, as well as black and Hispanic voters.

Both candidates, however, are not particularly popular among voters. Biden’s approval rating currently stands at 39 percent, while Trump’s sits at 41 percent. Moreover, only 23 percent of respondents feel that the country is currently on the right track. However, this sentiment has improved from the previous year when it was at a mere 13 percent.

The pollsters discovered that Biden’s acceptance by Democrats as the party’s nominee is increasing. While two-thirds of Democratic voters expressed a desire for an alternative nominee a year ago, that figure has now fallen to 50 percent. The survey revealed that 64 percent of Democratic primary voters would vote for Biden to be the nominee. Nevertheless, some other candidates also garnered support, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. earning 13 percent and Marianne Williamson gaining 10 percent.

It is worth mentioning that only 20 percent of Democrats said they felt enthusiastic about voting for Biden in November 2024. In comparison, 26 percent expressed enthusiasm for Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.

The pollsters highlighted the opinion of voter Melody Marquess, 54, from Tyler, Texas, which is shared by many Democrats. Marquess criticized Biden for his handling of the pandemic and inflation but acknowledged that he was the lesser of two evils. She further added that both candidates were too old in her opinion.

In conclusion, the recent poll results indicate a deadlock between Biden and Trump in the 2024 presidential race. Both candidates have equal support among registered voters, with Trump’s criminal charges having minimal impact. The survey also reveals varying degrees of support among different voter demographics and highlights the mixed sentiments towards both candidates. Democrats are increasingly accepting Biden as their nominee, although enthusiasm for his candidacy remains relatively low. These results provide valuable insights into the current political landscape as the 2024 election approaches.
