Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project Receives Detailed Project Report, Phase-I to Cover Key City Landmarks and Districts
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has recently submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project. This milestone comes after a series of comprehensive surveys and assessments carried out by the DMRC, including traffic survey, geo-technical investigation, topo-graphic survey, as well as environmental and social impact assessments.
In a meeting held by the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation, the DPR was presented to the Chief Secretary on August 16th, 2023. It is noteworthy that the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) was established on August 3rd, 2023, and has already appointed a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and General Manager (Administration).
According to the Detailed Project Report, Phase-I of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail will cover several significant city landmarks and districts. The proposed route spans a total length of 26 km, encompassing 20 stations. The key locations included in Phase-I are Biju Patnaik Airport, Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapujinagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vanivihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari, and Trisulia Square in Cuttack.
The decision to initiate the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project was made on April 1st, 2023, during the celebration of Odisha Dibas. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik authorized the project under the 5T mandate, connecting Bhubaneswar Airport and Trishulia in Cuttack. The future plans involve extending the metro rail to cover Khordha, Puri, and other areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city. The responsibility of preparing the DPR was entrusted to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project holds immense promise for the city and its residents.
