Best Lawyers Hired by National Conference to Challenge Article 370 Revocation

The National Conference has enlisted the services of top legal professionals to contest the revocation of Article 370 in the Supreme Court. Party leader Omar Abdullah expressed his confidence that the judges will be persuaded by their arguments.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah stated, We are fighting and we are there with a hope for justice. We have not left any stone unturned; we have engaged the best lawyers, and their performance has been appreciated by all. The hearings are ongoing, and we hope the judges will be convinced by our arguments. We are prepared to persist and await the outcome.

During an address to his party workers, Abdullah emphasized the significance of hiring renowned lawyers Kapil Sibal and Gopal Subramanium to present the case to the Supreme Court. He stated, We hired the best lawyers. Kapil Sibal and Gopal Subramanium are two of the top five lawyers in the country… The outcome is in the hands of God. As human beings, we can only make an effort, and we have spared no effort. Now, we must pray to God for success.

Abdullah also responded to the removal of the name of NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir, from government buildings, including the convention center in Srinagar. He asserted that while his grandfather’s name may be removed from physical structures, it will forever remain in the hearts of the people. He added, You can remove his name from the buildings, but not from the hearts [of the people]. If you remove Sher-e-Kashmir’s name from SKICC or cricket stadium or hospitals, it will make no difference. You cannot hide the truth. The Chief Justice of India has reiterated that truth to the people.

In response to Ghulam Nabi Azad’s statement about the religious background of Muslims in Kashmir, Abdullah expressed his lack of knowledge regarding the context or intent of the statement. When questioned about the recruitment process for various posts advertised by the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Recruitment Board, Abdullah criticized the government for its failure to complete the appointments. He highlighted previous governments’ successful recruitment efforts and suggested that the current administration should strengthen the existing board rather than involving external agencies.

The National Conference’s decision to hire top lawyers to challenge the revocation of Article 370 showcases their commitment to seeking justice through legal means. While the outcome is uncertain, the party remains hopeful that the Supreme Court judges will find merit in their arguments. Additionally, the removal of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s name from government buildings has sparked a defiant response from Omar Abdullah, who believes that his grandfather’s legacy will endure despite attempts to erase his name. As the legal battle continues, it remains to be seen how the Supreme Court will rule on this highly divisive issue.
