Bengaluru police are set to launch sensitisation drives in resident welfare associations and neighbourhoods following the recent beating of a delivery agent from Assam. Karnataka police reported their plans to implement the drives to the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Office, which was then communicated to the Assam Chief Minister’s Office. An investigation was prompted by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who tweeted a media report about a delivery agent who had been harassed and tortured by residents over false charges. The Karnataka Chief Minister’s Office responded by asking the Bengaluru police commissioner to conduct an immediate inquiry, which was completed within 12 hours. The police are now conducting further investigations to determine whether racial differences triggered the incident. The delivery agent was beaten up by the occupants of an apartment in Electronics City for allegedly forcing a young girl to go to the terrace, which was later discovered to be a false claim.
