Bangladesh’s Star Batter Litton Das Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2023

Bangladesh’s cricket team has received a major setback as their star batter, Litton Das, has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. This unfortunate development comes after Litton failed to recover from a viral fever, forcing him to miss the tournament. The news was confirmed by Minhajul Abedin, Chairman of the National Selection Panel, who stated that Litton did not travel to Sri Lanka for the team’s opening match against Sri Lanka scheduled for August 31.

In light of this setback, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s National Selection Panel has named Anamul Haque Bijoy as Litton’s replacement for the tournament. Anamul, a 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, will join the squad in Sri Lanka on August 30. With 44 One Day Internationals (ODIs) under his belt, Anamul has accumulated 1254 runs in his career, including three centuries. His last ODI appearance was in December last year during a home series against India.

Minhajul Abedin expressed his confidence in Anamul’s abilities, stating, He has been in good form in domestic cricket, and we have closely monitored his performance in the Bangladesh Tigers program. Anamul was always under consideration, and due to Litton’s unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could also keep wickets, making Anamul the suitable choice.

This unfortunate turn of events adds to the leadership crisis Bangladesh faced before the tournament. Initially, Captain Tamim Iqbal had announced his retirement from ODIs and relinquished his leadership position. However, his decision was reversed after a personal intervention by Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. While Litton Das was in line for the captaincy, experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was appointed as the captain until the ODI World Cup 2023.

Bangladesh’s team for the Asia Cup 2023 includes Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Naim Sheikh, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and the newly added Anamul Haque Bijoy.

The Asia Cup 2023 is set to commence with Bangladesh’s match against Sri Lanka on August 31 in Pallekele. This prestigious tournament will showcase the best cricketing talent from across Asia, and Bangladesh will undoubtedly miss the services of Litton Das, their star batter. However, the team remains determined to perform well and make their mark in this competitive event.

In conclusion, Litton Das’s absence from the Asia Cup 2023 due to a viral fever has dealt a blow to Bangladesh’s cricket team. Anamul Haque Bijoy has been selected as his replacement, and the team is looking forward to a tough yet exciting tournament ahead. All eyes will be on Bangladesh as they kick off their campaign against Sri Lanka on August 31.
