Former Bangladesh captain, Mominul Haque, ended his two-year-long drought without hitting a century as he scored his 12th Test century during the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Mirpur on Friday. Bangladesh set Afghanistan a daunting score of 662 runs for victory after scoring a whopping 425 for four in 80 overs before declaring for their second innings. Their earlier score was 382 while Afghanistan was only able to put up 146 in reply.

During the innings, Mominul scored an unbeaten 121 off 145 deliveries, while Liton Das remained unbeaten on 66. Mominul, who had scored 11 centuries in his first eight years of Test cricket, had not scored a century since April 2021 against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. The diminutive batsman had gone without a Test century for 13 games and 27 innings, but he ended the lean patch in style by bringing up his 12th ton in his 105th innings, with the century coming off 123 deliveries.

The mammoth target set by Bangladesh makes it an uphill task for Afghanistan to chase a victory. However, the team will be hoping to give their all to put up a good performance in the remainder of the match. With Bangladesh scoring so high, it is expected that they will emerge victorious in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, which began on Wednesday.

Bangladesh has some of the world’s best cricketers who have been performing very well of late. The team has come a long way since their early days in cricket and has made history by defeating some of the top cricketing nations in the world. Bangladesh’s performance in recent years has been commendable, and they have proved time and again that they can compete against even the toughest of opponents.

In conclusion, the Bangladesh team’s performance has been impressive, with Mominul Haque’s latest century score giving them an even bigger advantage over Afghanistan. Bangladesh is expected to emerge victorious, but cricket is a game of surprises, and anything can happen. For now, Bangladesh will be looking to maintain their momentum to secure the win they desire.
