On the other hand, the BNP accused Sheikh Hasina’s government of being illegitimate and called for her resignation. They declared a 48-hour nationwide strike and labeled the election as a sham.
Despite the absence of the main opposition party, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is projected to secure her fourth consecutive term and fifth overall victory in the 12th general assembly election. The election is being held in 299 out of 300 constituencies, with one center postponing its voting due to the unfortunate demise of a candidate.
Over 119.6 million registered voters have the opportunity to cast their votes at more than 42,000 polling stations. Notably, women comprise nearly half of the eligible voters, while approximately 15 million individuals are first-time voters.
