The Char Dham Yatra has been suspended due to bad weather conditions en route to Kedarnath and Badrinath. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed officials to be extra cautious as heavy rain and snowfall are expected throughout the Char Dham Yatra. As a precautionary measure, the government has stopped the Char Dham Yatra, and we advise travelers heading to Char Dham Yatra to wait until the weather clears up. The Meteorological Centre in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun and Tehri Garhwal districts has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places for the next 24 hours, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The Uttarakhand Chief Minister undertook an inspection of the State Disaster Management Control Room at the Secretariat on Sunday and obtained information about the state of heavy rains. According to the India Meteorological Department, Haridwar had 78 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, followed by Dehradun (33.2) and Uttarkashi (27.7). CM Dhami instructed the personnel to maintain communication and coordination with all those districts where heavy rains are still falling, so emergency situations can be dealt with in a timely manner.
The decision to suspend the Char Dham Yatra comes as several areas in Uttarakhand have already experienced heavy rains in recent days, causing severe landslides that led to the death of several people, prompting the authorities to evacuate residents from affected areas. It is important to note that the suspension of the Char Dham Yatra is a precautionary measure, and the government will provide further updates on the situation as it develops.
Travelers planning to visit Uttarakhand are advised to keep themselves updated on weather conditions and travel advisories and ensure they have necessary precautions for their safety. We urge everyone to stay safe and take necessary steps to avoid any potential dangers caused by bad weather conditions.
