Several students of Delhi University’s BA Economics course have raised an issue alleging that most of the questions on the research methodology paper were outside of the syllabus. As a result, the university is soon to implement relief measures to accommodate the students.

The students revealed that only two or three questions in the paper were pertinent to the syllabus. Furthermore, the paper delivered to semester four students erroneously constructed a line noting “second semester”.

The college faculty has ordered an evaluation based on three excerpts availing 25 marks to each question. These assessments are being carried out asserting other courses and works conducted in the university.

A shockingly similar instance of certificate exam questions being outside the syllabus was reported in Political Science at Hindu College and the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) was conferred with an EWS exam comprising of out-of-the-syllabus questions.

Following initial protest from the students, a discussion was carried out to evaluate the answer papers based on the three best questions. The three questions, featuring 25 marks each, will be measured to determine student performance.

Naveen Gaur, a member of Delhi University’s Academic Council, believes that numerous similar stories have been quite common for some time, which means that the university’s examination system is suffering. He attributes this agony to the implementation of semester system.

This story reflects the idea of how quickly the Delhi University’s academic standards are deteriorating with seasonal changes every time. The university’s department and examination branch are responsible to ensure a smooth academic transition with quality as the forefront feature.
