Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes that Australia’s win against England in the first Ashes Test was due to their unique style of play, adding that there is more than one way to approach the game. While Ponting praised Australia’s tactics, former England captain Kevin Pietersen feels that England’s style of play is still valid and should be continued. Pietersen believes that while fans want to be entertained, ultimately, it is the results that matter in a series like the Ashes. He did, however, acknowledge that while Australia has a unique approach, England should not abandon their brand of cricket.
Despite Ponting and Pietersen’s differing views, both agreed that the Ashes series promises to be an exciting one with plenty of twists and turns.
