Assam Science and Technology University (Astu) held its 3rd convocation ceremony at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International auditorium of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. Over 2,700 postgraduate and undergraduate students who passed out between 2021 and 2022 received degrees at the event. In addition, 15 gold medals and 50 certificates were awarded to the top performers.
Gulab Chand Kataria, the university chancellor and governor, expressed hope that the university will continue to operate with commitment and value, and encouraged all to put efforts for the progress of the society. He congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to prove themselves on larger platforms and work towards betterment of the society and the nation.
Renowned meteorologist, climatologist, and former director of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, Professor Bhupendra Nath Goswami, was the guest of honour. He praised Astu for its commitment to technical education and research in the region.
The vice chancellor of Astu, Professor Narendra S Chaudhari, stated that the university is working to understand and explore the possibilities for a systematic implementation of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020) for the benefit of stakeholders and society. The state government has recently declared Astu as a ‘Teaching and Research University,’ aligning its teaching-learning process with the vision of NEP-2020.
Currently, the University offers 11 undergraduate engineering, 11 postgraduate engineering, 18 other undergraduate, 18 other postgraduate, 3 diploma, and 13 doctoral programs. The University is collectively formulating the first phase of a comprehensive action plan for NEP-2020 implementation in different UG/PG programs.
The event marked the outcome of months and years of commitment, hard work, and perseverance by the graduates. They are now graduates, ready to prove themselves on larger platforms and work towards the betterment of society and the nation. This convocation has bestowed upon them a greater responsibility and all wishes them luck for the new phase of their lives.
