The Assam State government has launched a portal for higher education departments for UG admissions, with the aim of enabling universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through a digital framework. The portal, named assamadmission.samarth.ac.in, will facilitate planning, management, delivery and monitoring of services for students, staff and stakeholders.
According to the Assam education minister, Ranoj Pegu, the application process will begin on June 14 and stay open until June 28. Students can choose from 10 options of UG programmes in colleges and universities. The Gauhati University received the highest number of applications, with 2,500 applications yet to be paid for. In contrast, only 1% of applicants who opted for government colleges have made payment, while fees have been paid by 84% of those who opted for government-aided universities. A total of 9,029 students have completed the application process.
The state aims to allow suitable students access to UG admission applications through SAMARTH. The government hopes that administering the admissions process through a digital system will facilitate transparency and convenience, as well as improve the overall system’s management. The initiative is ostensibly aiming to simplify the admissions application process and regulate the number of applicants in the government colleges.
It remains to be seen how quickly the admissions fill be completed and whether the numbers rise as the Admissions Process progresses.
