Assam Police has made a major drug bust by seizing narcotics worth Rs 25 crore in the international market and arresting five individuals for drug peddling. The drug bust took place in the Karimganj district of Assam. Acting on a tip-off, the Karimganj police team intercepted two vehicles coming from Mizoram in the Bazarichera area. The police seized at least 3.2 kg of narcotic substances hidden in 250 soap boxes.
The arrested individuals were identified as Talab Hussain, Tahir Ahmed, and Khalid Hussain – residents of Patharkandi in Assam – and Nitai Sarkar and Nitu Sarka from Tripura. The police also seized two vehicles. The consignment was transporting drugs from Aizawl, and it is suspected that the drugs were meant to be transported to Guwahati. The investigations have continued to uncover connections between the peddlers and the buyers.
