The Assam government has decided to provide the National Food Security Act (NFSA) card to 40 lakh beneficiaries of the state in July 2021. According to the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, upper-income limit for new ration card beneficiaries will increase to Rs. 4 lakh from Rs. 2.5 lakh. The state will provide Rs. 1 lakh each to the casual labourer families of Doloo tea garden. 1496 such families will receive the compensation. The state cabinet also approved providing Rs. 2.5 lakh each to 173 families for construction of houses who would be displaced for the proposed Greenfield airport. The state also decided to create Adivasi Welfare & Development Council as per the Adivasi Accord signed on September 15, 2022. The council will form to ensure accelerated and focused development of Adivasi-inhabited villages/areas and tea garden areas. The state government also announced that people can now store their driving license, registration certificate in their digilocker and get it online. After three months, the department will completely stop issuing QR-based smart cards of DL and RC.
