The Assam government has announced plans to invest Rs 20,000 crore to transform 2,000 government schools in the state. The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated that each school would receive a financial outlay of Rs 10 crore. The government has also established 18 Adarsha Vidyalayas under the CBSE curriculum, which will teach in English. Furthermore, 19 schools in the tea garden areas of the state were opened. Sarma explained that the Adarsha Vidyalayas would be equipped with smart classrooms, science laboratories, computer labs, libraries, and Project Child, which aims to enhance students’ mental and physical development. The construction of 55 schools has been completed, while work on 71 more is underway. The introduction of these CBSE schools throughout Assam will enable students from economically challenged backgrounds to study in English at government schools.
