Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is in Balasore to celebrate International Yoga Day. But along with this joyful event, he will be holding meetings with the authorities who had looked after the victims of the triple-tragic train mishap that happened in Balasore. The railway minister will also express his gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff, who had responded quickly to the accident and aided the victims.
Moreover, Vaishnaw will interact with the locals who were instrumental in providing assistance to the victims during the challenging times of the rail accident. These individuals, including an exemplary auto driver, helped the injured passengers and their families. The driver made 32 round trips tirelessly transporting the victims to and from the accident site.
The tragic incident on June 2 involved the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express and a goods train, which claimed the lives of 288 people. The railway minister, who has prior experience in disaster management, will express his heartfelt gratitude to these individuals who served as inspirations during the time of crisis.
Vaishnaw, the collector of the district of Balasore in 1999, handled the super cyclone crisis. During the railway accident in Balasore, he led a team of more than 3000 officials to ensure the restoration of the rail line and the successful completion of the rescue and relief operations.
Overall, Vaishnaw’s meeting with the authorities and locals, who helped during the Balasore train tragedy, shows the government’s gratitude towards those who made a significant contribution in assisting the victims during the disaster.
