Church offering free ‘Saturday Sanctuary’ meal, place to rest for those who need it through February

ASHEVILLE – In a heartwarming effort to provide warmth, nourishment, and community to those in need, First Presbyterian Church in Asheville is hosting the ‘Saturday Sanctuary’ each week for almost the next two months. This initiative aims to offer refuge from the cold and provide a hot meal to those seeking solace and companionship.

The first session of Saturday Sanctuary took place on January 6th and will continue until the end of February. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday, the church’s dedicated volunteers will be serving warm meals free of charge. As temperatures drop, the significance of this benevolent gesture cannot be understated.

Donna Mann, the organizer of Saturday Sanctuary, emphasized the importance of treating everyone with dignity, irrespective of their circumstances. It’s important to us because we want to treat everyone with dignity and respect, no matter what their situation in life is, Mann stated. That’s what they get when they come here.

Beyond providing nourishment, the Saturday Sanctuary also offers amenities such as restrooms, card games, movies, and a safe space to rest for individuals seeking refuge from the cold. This thoughtful offering creates a sense of community and provides an opportunity for much-needed respite.

To partake in the ‘Saturday Sanctuary,’ individuals are encouraged to visit First Presbyterian Church, conveniently located at 40 Church Street in Asheville. The welcoming doors of the church will be open each Saturday until February 24th, providing a sanctuary for those in need.

Furthermore, the church is actively seeking additional volunteers to ensure the success of this transformative endeavor. Volunteers can contribute their time, efforts, and compassion to make a positive impact in the lives of those facing adversity.

The ‘Saturday Sanctuary’ initiative highlights the unity and compassion within the Asheville community. By extending a helping hand to those in need, First Presbyterian Church serves as a beacon of hope, providing much-needed warmth and nourishment during the harsh winter months.

Let us come together to support this heartwarming effort and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can demonstrate the power of compassion and create a community that embraces and uplifts everyone, regardless of their circumstances.
