Former England batter, Michael Atherton praised Ben Stokes for his attacking captaincy during the ongoing Ashes Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The former captain also highlighted the difference in captaincy styles between Pat Cummins and Stokes. Atherton stated that on day one, Cummins took a defensive approach instead of focusing on taking wickets, while Stokes has been aggressive in his captaincy approach. Every change Stokes made during the game has been about getting a wicket, whereas Cummins’ approach was all about stopping runs, said Atherton. Australia’s tactics have also been under criticism from previous skippers of the England cricket team, Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan. They expressed shock at the defensive approach the Australians took during the opening session of day one. The English host team reduced the Australians to 78 for three at the lunch break on day two, with an aggressive attacking approach from Stokes. Stuart Broad took the hosts off to a brilliant start on day 2 by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner.
