Rutgers Health Develops Disease-Predicting Software

IntelliGenes, the revolutionary disease-predicting software developed by Rutgers Health, is set to transform the field of healthcare. Combining artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning approaches, IntelliGenes has the ability to analyze specific genomic biomarkers and make accurate predictions about diseases in individuals, according to its developers.

In a groundbreaking study published in Bioinformatics, researchers explain how IntelliGenes can be utilized by a wide range of users to analyze multigenomic and clinical data. This means that individuals without extensive knowledge of bioinformatics techniques or access to high-performing computers can now benefit from this innovative software.

Lead author Zeeshan Ahmed, a faculty member at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH), highlighted the significance of IntelliGenes in the field of genomics. He emphasized that there are currently no AI or machine-learning tools available that can investigate and interpret the entire human genome, especially for nonexperts. IntelliGenes fills this gap by providing a user-friendly platform for analyzing genomic data.

The software combines traditional statistical methods with cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, resulting in personalized patient predictions and a visual representation of the biomarkers that are significant in disease prediction. This comprehensive approach ensures accurate and reliable results.

In another breakthrough study published in Scientific Reports, researchers applied IntelliGenes to predicting cardiovascular disease with remarkable accuracy. The software identified novel biomarkers that were previously unknown, further enhancing its potential for disease detection and prevention.

Zeeshan Ahmed expressed his enthusiasm for the future of IntelliGenes and its potential impact on healthcare. He emphasized the immense potential in harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to detect diseases early on and pave the way for innovative interventions and treatments.

To validate the effectiveness of IntelliGenes, the researchers tested the software using Amarel, the high-performance computing cluster managed by the Rutgers Office of Advanced Research Computing. This testing process ensured that the software delivers reliable and efficient results.

The coauthors of the study include William DeGroat, Dinesh Mendhe, Atharva Bhusari, and Habiba Abdelhalim from the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH), as well as Saman Zeeshan from the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

IntelliGenes represents a major milestone in disease prediction and personalized healthcare. With its user-friendly interface and advanced algorithms, the software has the potential to revolutionize the way diseases are detected and treated. By empowering individuals and researchers alike, IntelliGenes opens up new avenues for early intervention and the development of innovative treatments. With the convergence of artificial intelligence and healthcare, the future of disease prediction looks brighter than ever before.
