The Uttar Pradesh (ATS) has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against terrorism by apprehending two individuals who were reportedly planning a major terror attack. The suspects, identified as Amas alias Faraz Ahmed and Abdul Samad Malik, were found to be operating an ISIS module within Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). This development came as part of an ongoing investigation initiated in November 2023 based on intelligence inputs regarding illegal activities linked to ISIS.
Amas Ahmed, who had been evading arrest since his associates were apprehended on November 3, was finally captured on January 8, 2024, in the city of Aligarh. He is said to have recently graduated from AMU with a degree in psychology and had appeared for the MBA entrance exam in 2023. Abdul Samad Malik, also a student at AMU, was pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
Both suspects will be presented before the court and face legal consequences in accordance with the law. The ATS’s investigations have shed light on the fact that Amas and Abdul Samad were active supporters of ISIS and were conspiring to carry out a major terrorist attack.
The ATS had previously offered a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to the arrest of Amas. However, Abdul Samad Malik had voluntarily surrendered himself before the court. Their arrests were made possible due to the relentless efforts of the ATS, reflecting their commitment to maintaining peace and security within the country.
According to an official press release, the ATS had received credible information about individuals associated with ISIS and engaged in anti-national activities. Acting promptly, the ATS registered a case on November 3, 2023, resulting in the arrests of seven people, including Abdullah Arsalan, Maaz Bin Tariq, and Wajihuddin.
The case has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including IPC 13/23, Section 121A/122 IPC, as well as under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) 13/18/18V/38. This demonstrates the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the issue and their determination to combat terrorist activities.
As further investigations unfold, it is crucial for law enforcement agencies to continue their efforts in identifying and neutralizing any potential terror threats. The collaboration between intelligence agencies and educational institutions like AMU highlights the importance of a proactive approach in maintaining national security.
In the face of such threats, it becomes imperative for the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. By working together, we can ensure the safety of our society and thwart any attempts to disrupt peace.
