Arrested Mining Engineer in Delhi Exposes ISIS Terror Plot in North India
A mining engineer, 32-year-old Shahnawaz, also known as Shafi Uzzama, was recently arrested in Delhi for his alleged involvement in an ISIS terror plot in North India. He had managed to escape from the custody of the Pune police but was apprehended along with three associates while planning to carry out terror incidents in the region. The arrest of Uzzama is part of the ongoing efforts by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to apprehend individuals linked to the Pune ISIS module case.
Uzzama, an alumnus of Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT) Pune, was one of the four terror suspects wanted in connection with the Pune blast case. The NIA had released their pictures and offered a reward of ₹3 lakh each for credible information leading to their arrest. Along with Uzzama, the three other suspects are Talha Liyakat Khan, Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, and Abdulla Faiyaz Shaikh, alias Daiperwala.
According to a senior Delhi Police officer, the special cell has also recovered incriminating materials believed to be used for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the arrested suspects. The investigation revealed that they were planning terror incidents in North India based on instructions from foreign-based ISIS handlers.
Earlier, Uzzama, along with Mohammad Imran Mohammad Yunus Khan and Mohammad Yunus Mohammad Yakub Saki, was arrested by the Kothrud police in Pune on July 18. They were apprehended following an attempted theft of a two-wheeler. While the police were taking them to their residence in Kondhwa, Pune, for a search, Uzzama managed to escape by jumping out of the police vehicle.
In light of these developments, it is crucial for authorities to diligently investigate and prevent any potential terrorist activities in North India.
