A student leader in Arunachal Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old domestic helper working at his home. Milli Tetik, president of the Kamle District Students’ Union (KDSU), was taken into custody and a medical examination of the victim was conducted at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) near the area, confirming the sexual assault.
The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has strongly condemned the rape and requested for authorities to speed up the investigation to ensure justice is served. The organization has also committed to extend support to the survivor of the crime.
According to the police report, the incident occurred on May 22 and was reported to the TRIHMS the next day. The victim, from Longding district, is currently under observation and care. Tetik is currently under police custody with interrogation in progress, and the police are now waiting for the victim’s confession and statement before the magistrate under Section 164.
The APWWS is a notable NGO in Arunachal Pradesh through its various initiatives ranging from providing financial aid to launching awareness programs that aims to empower women. Beyond its independent projects, the organization has also closely collaborated with the Indian Government to implement various schemes that are focused on women’s rights. Additionally, the NGO is often seen conducting workshops, talks and other collaborations with various corporate firms and other partners in the state.
Milli Tetik is the president of the Kamle District Students’ Union (KDSU). He has been a part of the student union since inception and was elected as the leader in 2021. He is an active member of the local community and has served in various volunteer roles within the area. He currently holds a postgraduate degree in Political Science from North Bengal University.
