The Indian Army has signed a second procurement contract with Astrome Tech Pvt Ltd for the purchase of an indigenously developed Tactical LAN Radio. The radio is state-of-the-art, providing high-bandwidth backhaul wireless radio equipment for reliable and failsafe communication in remote or difficult terrain. It has an enhanced range of communication, an embedded frequency hopping mechanism to prevent interception, and long-range point-to-multipoint high-bandwidth communication capabilities. The system is also equipped with enhanced safety features and can operate continuously for 48 hours without a breakdown. The Indian Army has led the way in signing two contracts under Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), a program aimed at fostering innovation and technological development in defense and aerospace. The program engages R&D institutions, academia, industries including MSMEs, startups, individual innovators, and provides funding and support for R&D with good potential for adoption by Indian Defence and Aerospace Organisation.
