London [UK], January 29 (ANI): The founder and leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain, called for a constitutional amendment in Pakistan to hold military transgressors accountable. Hussain stressed that if an army general interferes in politics, they should be immediately removed from their position and face court martial.
Addressing the MQM members and the general public via a live video link from London on Sunday, Hussain expressed concerns about the authority of the Army Chief to provide political advice and suggest constitutional amendments. He argued that such actions amounted to interference in political matters and were unconstitutional.
Highlighting the need for accountability, Hussain proposed amending the constitution to ensure that any army general who breaks their oath and interferes in political affairs is promptly removed from office and subjected to court martial.
Furthermore, Hussain criticized the presence of army officers in top positions within civilian institutions, stating that this practice contradicted the constitution. He also raised concerns about instances of political engineering, where independent candidates are being threatened and arrested by paramilitary rangers.
Hussain called upon the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chief Election Commissioner to take action against these actions, emphasizing that their silence implied complicity.
Encouraging the people to raise their voices, Hussain urged for the liberation of the country from military influence and the establishment of a true democracy.
In a previous declaration last month, Hussain remarked that Pakistan was still under the control of international forces, indicating a lack of genuine freedom. He pointed out that international powers have an impact on appointments and promotions in the military and administration.
