The Indian Army has responded to allegations of molestation by more than 40 people made by the wife of a serving jawan. The army said it had contacted the police administration and had been assured of proper investigation. The woman made the allegations in Vellore, stating she had been verbally abused, inappropriately touched and half-stripped. The Superintendent of Police, Thiruvannamalai, Karthikeyan, said that two arrests had already been made and that preliminary investigations suggested the incident was the result of a civil dispute”. The army reiterated it placed high priority on the welfare of soldiers’ families in areas of deployment.
