Arkansas Lands Ashdown Middle Infielder Walt Jones in 2025 Baseball Commitment

Ashdown middle infielder Walt Jones has committed to playing baseball at the University of Arkansas in 2025. The Razorbacks’ coaches were impressed with the 5-10, 165-pound athlete during a game in Atlanta last month. Jones showcased his skills by hitting a home run and doubling twice while Arkansas pitching coach Matt Hobbs was in attendance. The hitting coach, Nate Thompson, also scouted Jones at a separate event in Georgia.

The coaches’ simultaneous interest in Jones speaks volumes about his abilities and potential. Chase Brewster, coach of Jones’ travel team, the Arkansas Sticks, praised Jones for playing the game the right way and excelling at any task given to him. Jones, who led the Sticks with an impressive .498 batting average during games at Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report events this year, expressed his excitement at committing to the Razorbacks and fulfilling his dream of playing at Baum Stadium.

Brewster compared Jones to Arkansas infielder Peyton Holt, who also played for the Sticks during high school. While Jones may not possess the same athletic versatility as Holt, Brewster believes that Jones is a similar athlete on the baseball field. Additionally, Jones is a valuable asset to his high school team, the Ashdown Panthers, having helped them earn state runner-up trophies for the past two years. He also showcases his pitching skills, with a fastball that has reached up to 88 mph.

Jones joins a growing list of players committed to the Razorbacks in the 2025 class. The Sticks team alone boasts eight players who have committed to Arkansas, including infielder Landon Schaefer and outfielder Jaison DeLamar from Fayetteville, as well as right-handed pitchers McLane Moody of Fort Smith Northside, Mark Brissey of Batesville, Russ Martin of Rose Bud, and Grant Wren of Melbourne. Infielder Luke Cornelison from Springdale Har-Ber completes the impressive list of commitments.

The Razorbacks’ success in recruiting promising young talents like Jones reflects their commitment to building a strong baseball program for the future. With Jones’s skills and dedication, Arkansas fans have every reason to be excited about the potential he brings to the team. As Jones prepares to join the Razorbacks in 2025, the program continues to grow and solidify its status as a force to be reckoned with in college baseball.
