Arjun Tendulkar, the son of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, has been fast-tracked into the South Zone squad for the upcoming Deodhar Trophy inter-zonal 50-over competition. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Puducherry from July 24.
Arjun, a left-arm fast-medium bowler and a hard-hitting lower-order batter, recently made his debut for the Mumbai Indians in the last edition of the Indian Premier League. He has also been called up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for an Emerging all-rounders’ camp in August.
The South Zone squad, led by Mayank Agarwal, will feature the top performers from each of the south zone states. Some players, such as B Sai Sudharsan, have been kept as standbys due to their participation in the Emerging Asia Cup in Colombo from July 13-23.
Arjun’s selection adds variety to the South zone pace attack, which also includes Karnataka’s new ball duo of Vidwath Kaverappa and Vyshak Vijaykumar, as well as V Koushik. In the Goa team, Arjun was the joint-highest wicket-taker with eight scalps from seven games.
The South Zone squad for the Deodhar Trophy is as follows: Mayank Agarwal (Captain), Rohan Kunnummal (Vice-captain), N Jagadeesan (wicketkeeper), Rohit Rayadu, KB Arun Karthik, Devdutt Padikkal, Ricky Bhui (wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, V Kaverappa, V Vyshak, Kaushik V, Mohit Redkar, Sijomon Joseph, Arjun Tendulkar, Sai Kishore.
With Arjun Tendulkar’s inclusion in the South Zone squad, all eyes will be on the young cricketer as he aims to make a name for himself in the world of cricket, following in his father’s footsteps. Despite the added pressure of carrying the Tendulkar surname, Arjun has the opportunity to showcase his skills and further his cricketing career.
The Deodhar Trophy provides a platform for young and talented cricketers to make an impact and catch the attention of selectors. The inclusion of Arjun Tendulkar signifies the faith and belief that the selectors have in his abilities. It remains to be seen how he performs in the upcoming tournament and whether he can live up to the expectations associated with the Tendulkar name.
Overall, Arjun Tendulkar’s fast-track entry into the South Zone squad for the Deodhar Trophy is an exciting development in Indian cricket. It presents an opportunity for Arjun to prove his mettle and establish himself as a force to be reckoned with in the future. As the tournament approaches, cricket fans will eagerly await his performance and hope to witness the emergence of a new star in Indian cricket.
