Spanish defender Julio Pleguezuelo has become the first summer signing for Plymouth Argyle. The former Arsenal under-21s captain has signed a two-year contract ahead of the 2023/24 Championship campaign. Pleguezuelo joins as a free agent after rejecting the chance to stay with FC Twente, who finished fifth in the Dutch Eredivise this season. The 24-year-old has played regularly over the last three seasons for FC Twente and most recently in a two-legged play-off against Sparta Rotterdam earlier this month. FC Twente won 2-1 to clinch a place in the qualifying rounds of the Europa Conference League next season. Argyle manager Steven Schumacher said that Julio was an excellent addition to the team, and Director of Football Neil Dewsnip said that it was a real coup to get his signature.
