Apple’s Impact Accelerator Announces Support for Black and Brown Entrepreneurs in Advancing Green Solutions
Apple has just unveiled the third round of its Impact Accelerator program, which aims to provide assistance to tech startups. This year, the program takes a significant step forward in promoting racial equity by selecting 12 businesses owned by Black and Brown entrepreneurs for an enviable level of support. The chosen entrepreneurs will benefit from a 12-week training program, one-to-one mentorship, access to Apple experts, networking opportunities, and the chance to become a supplier to Apple.
The Impact Accelerator program falls within Apple’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative, which was launched in 2020. Apple CEO Tim Cook first addressed the issue of racial injustice in an open letter following the tragic murder of George Floyd. Cook recognized that words alone were not enough and committed to taking action by establishing the Racial Equity and Justice Initiative with an initial $100 million in funding.
The Apple Impact Accelerator program is a vital component of the REJI, demonstrating Apple’s dedication to achieving carbon neutrality across its entire supply chain by 2030. By launching the Impact Accelerator, Apple aims to ensure that its work towards protecting the planet also helps address systemic barriers faced by communities disproportionately affected by environmental issues, including climate change.
Since its inception, the Impact Accelerator program has gone from strength to strength. In 2021, 15 businesses were chosen for the first round, followed by an additional 16 in 2022. Now, Apple has proudly announced the 12 businesses selected for this year’s cohort.
Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, expressed her enthusiasm for the third cohort, stating, With the third cohort of our Impact Accelerator, we’re honored to support businesses whose innovations are paving the way to a greener, more equitable future. She further highlighted the variety of solutions these diverse leaders provide in the fight against climate change, encompassing renewable energy, recycling, and more. Jackson concluded by expressing Apple’s pride in supporting these inspiring entrepreneurs and their journeys.
