Apple Could Debut Its ChatGPT Rival ‘Ajax’ During WWDC 2024: Report
Apple is set to unveil its very own large language model (LLM) called ‘Ajax’ at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The tech giant is aiming to compete with other industry players like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini LLM, Amazon, and Meta.
Gurman highlights that Apple has been lagging behind in terms of AI tools, especially since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022. However, the company is expected to introduce ‘Ajax’ alongside iOS 18, as it has been testing the model since early last year.
One of the anticipated applications of Apple’s generative AI technology is the addition of auto-summarization and auto-complete features to popular applications such as Keynote and Pages. Moreover, Apple Music might also receive AI enhancements, potentially allowing for automatic playlist creation. Additionally, Siri is slated for an overhaul.
Interestingly, reports suggest that Apple is also working on a system to streamline the support process for AppleCare employees. This system aims to simplify troubleshooting and improve customer assistance.
Despite Apple’s progress, it still has ground to cover compared to its competitors. Gurman predicts that it may take Apple until at least 2025 to fully establish its generative AI capabilities. Meanwhile, Google and Samsung, two prominent rivals in the Android market, are ramping up their own AI offerings.
Google has already integrated multiple AI-centric features into its Pixel 8 lineup, including Gemini Nano integration. Meanwhile, Samsung plans to heavily emphasize AI in its upcoming Galaxy S24 series, branding it as ‘Galaxy AI.’
In conclusion, Apple’s anticipated unveiling of ‘Ajax’ at WWDC 2024 signals a step forward in the company’s AI endeavors. While it may take some time for Apple to catch up with its competitors in this space, the tech giant is determined to enhance its generative AI capabilities and deliver innovative user experiences.
