An appeals court on Wednesday upheld a suspended jail sentence for a grandson of late former President Chun Doo-hwan for his illegal drug use.
The Seoul High Court handed down the 2 1/2 year prison term, suspended for four years, to Chun Woo-won on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. The court also ordered him to be put under probation for three years and undergo 120 hours of community service and 80 hours of a drug treatment program, along with a forfeit of 2.66 million won (US$1,970).
Chun, 28, was indicted for taking four types of drugs, including ecstasy and ketamine, during his stay in the United States from November 2022 to March 2023. He received the same sentence and order from a district court last December.
