Apollo Hospitals has expanded its robotic colorectal surgery program to six cities in India to provide patients with minimally invasive procedures that offer precision and accuracy. The cities include Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Vishakhapatnam. The technology and technique used in this program help surgeons to dissect areas such as a narrow pelvis with precision, which ultimately leads to a drop in readmission rates and reduced wound infection rates. The program has also reportedly led to fewer post-surgery complications in comparison to the global market. The robotic surgeries at Apollo Hospitals use highly skilled surgeons, with Dr. Preetha Reddy, the Executive Vice-Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals Group, stating that such surgeries have been pivotal in shaping a new realm of robotic colorectal surgery. In addition, Dr. Venkatesh Munikrishnan, a consultant colorectal and robotic surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, who has performed over 600 robotic colorectal surgeries, stressed the need for creating awareness about colorectal cancer, saying that people with a family history of cancer should screen themselves every year as a preventive step to increase their chances of survival. The positive outcomes of robotic colorectal cancer surgeries have resulted in patients coming from across the subcontinent, representing a total of 40% of them from South Asia.
