New Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was spotted enjoying a day at Lords watching the Ashes cricket match. The Australian coach, who recently took over at Spurs ahead of the new Premier League season, witnessed a morning of cricket that saw England experience a batting collapse.

Some fans humorously blamed Postecoglou for having a Spursy effect on England’s batting performance, suggesting it was preparation for his new role. As England crumbled from 279-4 to 325 all out, one fan tweeted, Useful for him to watch a team beat themselves by making the same mistakes over and over again.

Another fan jibed, No wonder we’re bottling it. Get him gone!!! and a third commented, Realizing cricket is more entertaining than watching his own team.

During England’s batting collapse, one fan drew a comparison to Tottenham’s infamous tendency to falter, tweeting: Watching a very ‘Spursy’ type performance by England. Additionally, there was hope among Tottenham supporters that Postecoglou was scouting for a potential third summer signing, with one fan suggesting he was scouting the wicketkeeper for backup in response to Alex Carey’s impressive performance for Australia.

Postecoglou has already made his mark at Tottenham with the signings of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli for £17 million and James Maddison from Leicester City for £40 million. Furthermore, Dejan Kulusevski has secured a permanent move from Juventus.

As an Australian, Postecoglou would have been delighted with Australia’s strong performance in the Ashes. England’s captain Ben Stokes was dismissed by Mitchell Starc with the second ball of the day, setting the tone for a disappointing batting display. England’s tail struggled, managing only 14-4 after Harry Brook was dismissed cheaply on 50. Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja continued to trouble England by reaching another half-century and extending Australia’s lead.

As Postecoglou settles into his new role at Tottenham, his presence at Lords could be interpreted in different ways by fans. Some see it as a humorous correlation to Tottenham’s historic Spursy moments, while others hope he was taking note of potential signings. Only time will tell how Postecoglou will fare as Tottenham’s manager, but Spurs fans will be hoping for a strong start to the season.

Let us know in the comments section what you think about Postecoglou’s appointment as Spurs boss and his presence at the Ashes.
