Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief Rudraraju Gidugu resigns, YS Sharmila likely to take over: Sources
Amravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], January 16 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Chief Rudraraju Gidugu stepped down from his post on Monday. Sources have revealed that while Gidugu has resigned as the APCC Chief, he will continue to work with the party until further directives are provided by the high command.
In a significant political development earlier this month, YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy and daughter of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, merged her party, YSR Telangana Party, with the Congress and joined the party. Now, it is speculated that Sharmila will be appointed as the APCC President and may face off against her brother, Reddy, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to sources, Sharmila’s induction into the Congress party took place in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former party president Rahul Gandhi, and other senior leaders, including KC Venugopal, the general secretary of the organization. Speaking on this occasion, Sharmila expressed her pleasure at the merger of YSR Telangana Party with Congress. She emphasized that her father, the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy, had not only dedicated his entire life to the Congress party but had also sacrificed his life for it.
Sharmila considers Congress to be the only true and largest secular party in India, which upholds the nation’s cultural ethos, serves all sections of society, and unites the people. She expressed deep concern over the situation in Manipur and stressed the importance of having Congress in power to prevent such incidents from occurring.
Highlighting her father’s aspiration to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of India, Sharmila expressed her gratitude for being part of the process that could make this dream a reality. She assured that she would fulfill any role given to her by the Congress party with loyalty, integrity, and diligence.
In conclusion, Rudraraju Gidugu’s resignation as the APCC Chief paves the way for YS Sharmila to potentially take over the position. As she joins Congress after merging her party, she brings with her the political legacy of her father. It remains to be seen how her entry into Congress shapes the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh and her potential rivalry with her brother in the upcoming elections.
