Andhra Police Conduct Surprise Checks at Telangana Border Amid Protests Over Chandrababu Naidu’s Arrest
Andhra Pradesh police carried out unexpected vehicle checks at the border with Telangana in response to protests over the arrest of former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader N. Chandrababu Naidu. Hyderabad IT employees had called for a rally named ‘Chalo Rajahmundry’ in support of Naidu, but their permission was denied by the Andhra police. The IT employees were protesting against the arrest of Naidu, who is currently held in Rajahmundry Central Prison for his alleged involvement in a skill development scam.
Barricades were set up at the Andhra-Telangana border, and police personnel actively inspected vehicles arriving from Telangana. The Vijayawada Commissioner instructed the police to restrict the entry of IT employees into the state. Under Section 144 of the CrPC, the police have issued restriction orders in Vijayawada, warning that violators will face legal action.
Naidu’s remand was extended by two days on Friday, and he will remain in the custody of the Crime Investigation Department for questioning. The case against Naidu relates to the establishment of Centres of Excellence in Andhra Pradesh, with an estimated project value of Rs 3300 crore. The officials allege that the scam has caused a loss of over Rs 300 crore to the state government.
These latest developments have sparked protests and demonstrations by IT employees in Hyderabad. However, the authorities have denied permission for the planned car rally from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. The situation remains tense, with a clash of opinions between supporters and opponents of Naidu. The police are taking measures to maintain law and order, and strict vigilance is being conducted at the border to ensure the situation doesn’t escalate further.
