Flip Zonne Zuijderland, the 25-year-old manager of the skatepark, emphasizes the importance of creating a space where everyone can be themselves and have fun. While there have been efforts to promote skateboarding for women in countries like Afghanistan and the Palestinian territories, not much has been done specifically for LGBTQ skaters until now. The Amsterdam skatepark, a collaboration between Women Skate the World and New Wave, may be the first of its kind in the world.

As the group grew, they realized the need for their own dedicated space. With the help of donations and public funding, they transformed an empty warehouse into a safe haven for skateboarders.
