Amsterdam Startup Smiler Raises €7.9M, Launches Global Photo Booking Platform

Dutch start-up Smiler has secured €7.9m ($9.2m) in a funding round led by Octopus Ventures. Smiler connects photographers with tourists in popular locations and aims to provide affordable, high-quality photoshoots around the world. The new funds will enable the company to expand into thousands of new locations. Smiler is integrated with several leading online travel agencies and has already added some of Europe’s most iconic destinations to its photo booking platform. The start-up has also launched its consumer website, Smiler.co, which lists destinations such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Rome’s Colosseum, and Barcelona’s La Sagrada Familia. The global revenue in the photo tourism industry is expected to hit €241bn by 2024, according to research from Phocuswright and Arival.
