AMSTERDAM MAN ARRESTED, LINKED TO SPREE OF VANDALISM CAUSING OVER $17K IN DAMAGES

Amsterdam, NY (WRGB) — An Amsterdam man was apprehended on Sunday after being connected to a series of vandalism incidents that have plagued the city throughout November.

51-year-old Brian C. Lebron, a resident of Amsterdam, now faces nine felony charges, including five counts of second-degree criminal mischief and four counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

The law enforcement authorities were first notified of the vandalism spree on November 13, when a resident on East Main Street reported their vehicle had been vandalized overnight. Upon arrival at the scene, the officers discovered two additional damaged vehicles nearby, all of which had windows and/or windshields shattered.

An extensive investigation led by the police found that beyond the three vehicles, damage had occurred to six buildings in the Main Street, Chuctanunda Street, Church Street, and East Main Street areas. Bricks were recovered as evidence, believed to have been used by Lebron to cause the destruction, according to authorities. Surveillance footage obtained during the investigation helped identify the suspect, and a quantity of bricks was allegedly found close to an area Lebron frequents.

The cost of repairing the buildings totals over $13,000, while damage to the vehicles amounts to nearly $4,000.

On November 19, Lebron was apprehended as he was spotted near Church Street by the investigating officer. He was subsequently released with an appearance ticket for Amsterdam City Court.

Vandalism incidents have become a significant concern for the residents and business owners in Amsterdam. The police are assuring everyone that they are committed to investigating thoroughly and bringing those responsible for these acts to justice, ensuring the safety and security of the community.

These senseless acts of vandalism have caused significant damage and financial burden to the affected individuals and businesses, said police spokesperson, Officer Sandra Brooks. We are determined to hold the responsible party accountable for their actions.

Local business owners have expressed their frustration and concern over the incidents. It’s disheartening to see our community suffer due to the actions of a few individuals. Hopefully, the arrest brings an end to this spree of vandalism, said Sarah Thompson, owner of a vandalized property on Main Street.

The Amsterdam Police Department urges anyone with additional information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The arrest of Brian C. Lebron brings hope to the residents of Amsterdam, as they can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the individual responsible for the vandalism will face legal consequences for their actions.
