Manipur Viral Video Case: Amit Shah Urges Biren Singh to Take Strict Action Against Culprits
New Delhi, July 20 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently spoke to Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh regarding the horrifying incident of two women being paraded naked in the Thoubal district of the violence-hit state. Shah demanded that stringent action be taken against the perpetrators, according to sources.
During a phone conversation on Thursday morning, Biren Singh updated Shah on the actions already initiated since the video of the appalling incident went viral on social media the previous day, the sources added.
Shah, after being informed, directed the Chief Minister to ensure strict action is taken against those responsible.
In a tweet earlier in the day, Biren Singh confirmed that one person had been arrested, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the remaining culprits.
My heart goes out to the two women who were subjected to a deeply disrespectful and inhumane act, as shown in the distressing video that surfaced yesterday. The Manipur Police swung into action immediately after the video came to light, leading to the first arrest this morning.
A thorough investigation is currently underway, and we will ensure strict action is taken against all the perpetrators, including considering the possibility of capital punishment. Let it be known, there is absolutely no place for such heinous acts in our society, he stated.
The incident, which occurred on May 4, transpired just a day after ethnic violence erupted in Manipur, claiming numerous lives and displacing thousands of people from their homes.
According to the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), the two women were also gang-raped in a paddy field following their public humiliation.
The authorities are now working diligently to bring justice to the victims and hold the culprits accountable for their actions.
The incident has sparked outrage across the country, with many demanding swift and severe punishment for those involved in this heinous crime.
The Manipur government, supported by the Union Home Minister, is determined to ensure that justice is served and that such acts of violence are eradicated from society.
The investigation will uncover the truth behind this grotesque incident, and appropriate action, including possible capital punishment, will be pursued to demonstrate society’s commitment to protecting its most vulnerable members.
The nation waits for justice, for the victims and for the establishment of a society that rejects such acts of barbarity.
The Manipur government and law enforcement agencies are urged to expedite the investigation, ensuring a fair and impartial process that leaves no stone unturned in delivering appropriate justice.
It is through the collective efforts of the government, law enforcement agencies, and society at large that such gruesome incidents can be prevented in the future, creating a safer and more compassionate society for all its citizens.
