Union Minister Amit Shah took to Twitter on Monday to extend his greetings on the occasion of International Yoga Day. In his tweet, Shah highlighted yoga as an invaluable heritage given by India to the world and a medium to concentrate the body, mind, and soul. He emphasized that yoga not only makes the body healthy but also the brain. Shah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in making yoga a lifestyle for people worldwide.
Every year, International Yoga Day falls on June 21 and serves as a platform to promote the numerous benefits of yoga for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The concept was introduced by PM Modi during his 2014 address to the United Nations General Assembly. Since then, yoga has gained immense global popularity for its ability to enhance flexibility, strength, balance, and overall fitness.
This year, the theme of Yoga Day is ‘Yoga For Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which emphasizes the spirit of yoga bringing everyone together as ‘One World-One Family.’ The event will see programs related to yoga organized across the country.
Yoga not only helps mental health but also overall well-being. Regular yoga practice reduces stress, improves symptoms of anxiety and depression. Following the pandemic, yoga has shown remarkable results in reducing anxiety and depression symptoms by helping with emotional management, mood improvement, and brain clarity. It highlights the connection between the mind and body.
On International Yoga Day, people are encouraged to take up yoga, even if it is for a few minutes, and reap the many benefits it offers.
