American Woman Assaulted and Botched in Mexican Hospital: Horror Surgery Ends in Unexpected Procedures

A 65-year-old American woman, Kimberly McCormick, sought discount skin-tightening surgery in Mexico but woke up to a shocking surprise. Instead of the intended procedure, doctors had given her a breast augmentation and Brazilian butt lift without her consent. McCormick had previously undergone successful weight-loss surgery at the same facility six years ago, which prompted her return.

The surgery was meant to remove excess skin following her significant weight loss of 150 pounds. The cost of the surgery in Mexico was significantly lower, at $13,000, compared to the estimated $50,000 it would have cost in the United States. However, the unexpected procedures have now placed McCormick with an estimated $75,000 bill to undo the damage caused.

Upon waking up from surgery, McCormick immediately realized something was wrong as one of her lungs partially collapsed. The markings on her body made by the surgeon indicated that only a skin-tightening surgery had been planned, including a leg lift, arm lift, breast lift, and tummy tuck. However, the surgery lasted much longer than anticipated, starting at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and not ending until 1:30 in the morning.

While Misty Ann McCormick, Kimberly’s daughter, tried to visit her mother after the botched surgery, she was initially denied access. When she finally managed to enter her mother’s room, she was met with a horrifying sight. Kimberly appeared sickly with blue lips and a grey nose, and her oxygen tank was not even connected.

Kimberly recounted an unsettling interaction with a nurse who told her she was sexy. Feeling mortified, Kimberly emphasized that being sexy was never her goal, given her age.

The situation escalated when Misty Ann confronted the hospital staff about the unauthorized procedures. She claims that she was physically removed from the premises by armed men, who manhandled and beat her. Approximately 15 police officers were present during the incident, but they did not intervene to help Misty Ann.

In addition to the physical assault, the hospital staff further extorted the mother-daughter duo by demanding an extra $2,500 for a longer-than-anticipated recovery period. Kimberly was forced to sign a form stating that she had wanted the surgeries she received without consent.

Once they crossed the U.S. border, the McCormicks did not receive the assistance they sought from American authorities. According to Misty Ann, the San Diego police ridiculed them and directed them to contact the Tijuana police, who had previously assaulted her.

Kimberly eventually sought treatment for a serious infection she contracted due to the unsanitary conditions at the Mexican hospital.

Sadly, Kimberly’s experience is one example of the medical tourism industry in Mexico taking a disastrous turn. The Mexico Bariatric Center, where she had her surgery, is a renowned facility for medical tourism, offering all-inclusive packages for international patients seeking bariatric surgery at lower rates.

The global medical tourism industry, estimated to be valued at $70 billion, exists in various regions, including Europe, Asia, and North America.

Kimberly McCormick’s ordeal serves as a reminder of the risks associated with traveling abroad for medical procedures, emphasizing the importance of thorough research and due diligence before making such decisions.
