AltaMed, a leading healthcare provider in Southern California, has announced the acquisition of ChapCare, expanding healthcare accessibility in Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. This strategic move aims to address the growing demand for affordable health services while ensuring sustained care for approximately 18,000 patients in the region.
ChapCare, the Community Health Alliance of Pasadena, has been serving the community since 1995 as a federally qualified health center. With a strong commitment to providing primary healthcare services to low-income and uninsured residents, ChapCare has become a trusted provider, offering a range of services including family and pediatric care, dental, behavioral health, optometry, and podiatry.
The integration of ChapCare into the AltaMed network will ensure uninterrupted access to comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services for patients. In addition, pediatric services will be expanded, and ChapCare patients will gain access to multiple locations across Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Deyner Zapata, CEO of ChapCare, expressed pride in partnering with AltaMed, emphasizing their shared mission of providing high-quality healthcare services to patients. This consolidation will enable residents of the San Gabriel Valley to receive care for years to come, bridging the gap in healthcare access in the region.
Notably, this acquisition also brings forth a collaboration between ChapCare and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), a renowned pediatric specialty facility. Through this partnership, ChapCare patients will now have access to CHLA’s AltaMed co-staffed urgent care locations and the CHLA Medical Group, further enhancing the quality and range of care available to them. This collaboration builds upon the longstanding relationship between AltaMed and CHLA, which has spanned over 20 years and benefited hundreds of thousands of children.
In addition to expanding their healthcare network, AltaMed has recently partnered with the University of La Verne to establish the College of Health and Community Well-Being. This initiative, set to open in fall 2025, aims to train a diverse range of healthcare professionals and contribute to addressing the critical health workforce shortage in Southern California. Student rotations in AltaMed clinics will provide valuable practical experience, contributing to the development of a skilled and qualified healthcare workforce.
By acquiring ChapCare, AltaMed is taking a significant step towards meeting the growing healthcare needs of the Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley communities. Their commitment to providing accessible, high-quality care ensures that patients of ChapCare will continue to receive comprehensive healthcare services, while expanding their access to additional locations and specialized pediatric care. This acquisition, alongside their efforts to train future healthcare professionals, solidifies AltaMed’s position as a leader in community health services in Southern California.
