The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has taken note of the dire situation of the ‘lawaris ward’ at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherji (Civil) Hospital in Lucknow. The court has directed the secretary of the state legal services authority to visit the hospital and its ‘lawaris ward’ to investigate allegations of patients receiving inadequate care. The decision was made on a PIL filed by Jyoti Rajpoot, and the bench has also asked the CMO, Lucknow and the superintendent of Civil Hospital to investigate the allegations. The petitioner claimed that six patients in paralysed conditions were not receiving proper care, and the ward was filthy and stinking. It was also alleged that hospital authorities and doctors were unsympathetic towards the patients. The bench expressed surprise at the appalling condition of the ‘lawaris ward’ in a reputed hospital and ordered an investigation into the matter.
