The Great Indian Rescue, an upcoming feature film starring Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra, is set to hit theatres on October 5th, according to the film’s producers. Inspired by the heroic actions of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who saved 64 miners from a flooded quarry in West Bengal in 1989, the film is produced by Pooja Entertainment and directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who previously worked with Kumar on 2016’s Rustom.
Hoping to replicate the critical and commercial success of the duo’s previous collaboration, 2019’s Kesari, the film’s producers have high hopes for The Great Indian Rescue. The story of Jaswant Singh Gill, who was awarded numerous honors for his bravery in rescuing the miners, is one of the most inspiring tales of heroism in recent Indian history.
The film’s release date announcement was accompanied by praise for the late Mr. Gill from producer Vashu Bhagnani.
