The Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Air Cargo (Exports) announced on Tuesday that 69.876 kg of drugs, worth Rs 200 crore, has been destroyed at the Centralized Biomedical Waste Treatment Facility. The officials stated that the first batch of contraband, seized at the New Courier Terminal in nine cases, amounted to 13.346 kg, including 1.997 kg of heroin, 4.236 kg of ganja, 7.113 kg of ketamine, and various other NDPS substances. The second batch consisted of contraband seized at the Foreign Post Office in 23 cases, including 4.350 kg of ganja, 52.180 kg of ketamine, meth, and other NDPS substances.
The staggering amount of drugs being destroyed has brought attention to the consequences of drug trafficking, not only on the individuals involved but also on the broader community. Drug trafficking is not only a severe threat to public health, but it also fuels organized crime and can be a source of funding for terrorism. The destruction of this enormous amount of drugs will prevent them from making their way into the hands of vulnerable individuals and causing harm to society.
The officials further explained that the drugs were burned via incineration in Nilothi. Incineration is the safest way to destroy hazardous waste and ensure that it won’t harm the environment. This move by the NDPS Air Cargo (Exports) is commendable and will undoubtedly help keep the city’s air cargo clean of contraband substances.
The destruction of drugs worth Rs 200 crore is a significant success for the NDPS Air Cargo (Exports). It is a reminder that the authorities are keeping a close eye on any illegal activity and are taking the necessary actions to safeguard the public. The NDPS Air Cargo (Exports) and other law enforcement agencies must continue their efforts and work towards putting an end to drug trafficking in the country.
